Letter from Superintendent Laure Quaresma - Family Orientation Meetings

August 18, 2020

Dear Athena-Weston School District families,

As the 2020-21 school year approaches, this letter seeks to provide you an overview of the 1st two weeks of the district school calendar.

In order for staff to successfully support students with distance learning, we are dedicating time to meet with students and families during the week of August 31 through September 4. These meetings will help ensure that all families have the supplies, technology devices, and internet access they need. We will be scheduling family orientation meetings for each student and family. Family Orientation meetings are an opportunity for families to meet their student’s teacher, learn how to access the digital platforms, and review classroom procedures and expectations. You will be receiving phone calls this week to confirm meeting times for your family. We will make every effort to accommodate family needs with scheduling including Zoom meeting options as needed.

Our focus is to support our students, families, and staff so they have a successful start to the school year. The first instructional day for students will be September 8 with instruction assigned by individual teachers.

Please note the following key dates and activities for the start of the 2020-21 school year:

  • August 24 through August 28: Staff Professional Development
  • August 31 through September 4: Family Orientation Meetings, student schedules and technology distribution
  • September 8: Comprehensive Distance Learning begins

Please continue to check the district and individual school websites for updates and posting with our live district Q and A.

Sincerely,

Laure Quaresma, Superintendent
