After months of preparation, Weston Middle School Leadership students hosted a successful TigerScots Got Talent Show on Friday, November 21st right before Thanksgiving Break. A total of 10 acts performed at the show, which was enjoyed by the entire student body and about 25 members of the public.
Acts included singing, musical instrument performances, comedy, poetry reading and more.
Eloise Hansell, eighth grade leadership student, said students were very supportive of the performers and the leadership group was very happy with the event. “The show brought out a lot of school spirit,” she said.
Hansell and Ross Geiger, eighth grade leadership student, were the emcees and wore inflatable turkey costumes, which they said got a lot of laughs. They said they practiced their emcee scripts a lot.
Audience members paid $1 per vote to choose their favorite act. The event raised $530, which was donated to Veterans in Athena and Weston through the American Legion.
Votes were tabulated after the show and winners were announced at the end of the school day.
First Place – Halo Hatley
Second Place – Cambre Rhodes and Cora Hansell
Third Place – JayDee Funderburk & Kathryn Gillum
Winners received gift cards to Dutch Bros. Coffee.
Winner Hatley said she participated because it was an opportunity to show that she really enjoys singing. She has been singing since she was three or four years old. At the TigerScots Got Talent Show, she sang Beautiful Things by Benson Boone. She said when her name was called to go to the stage, she was very nervous and her heart was pounding really fast, but when the music started, she calmed down. Hatley was happy that members of her family were there to see her.
The audience really enjoyed her singing. “Ross and I were backstage and when we heard her, we got chills,” said Hansell.
WMS Principal Ann Vescio asked the student audience at the end of the show if they want to have another talent show, and there was loud applause supporting the idea.
Way to go, WMS Leadership, on a great event!
