Terry Smith

  • graduated in 1963 from McEwen High School

  • lettered 4 times in football, 4 times in track and 3 times in basketball

  • in his senior year the basketball team appeared at the state tournament for the first time since 1937

  • won the Class AA state championship in the mile

    • set a state record of 4:29.2

  • after high school continued his education and track career at Oregon State University

    • graduated OSU in 1968 with degrees in Animal Science and Business

    • his name still appears on the South wall at OSU as one of the top runners of all time

    • one of his most exciting races was the Pac-10 mile dual between Olympian Gerry Lindgren of WSU and Terry

      • Smith ran the 6th fastest mile in Oregon State history that day finishing in 4:02, ten seconds faster than his previous record set just one week earlier at Stanford ~ most importantly he had beat Gerry Lindgren

  • he and his wife Penny have four children and ten grandchildren
