Donna Callaway Ball

  • Graduated from McEwen High School in 1960

    • participated in cheerleading, member of Girls' League, Editor of the School Newspaper the Highlander, member of Honor Society and participated in student council

    • was a Highland Fling Dancer and two years President of the Highland Lassies

    • the FFA boys chose her their Sweetheart and she was selected as a Umatilla County Fair Princess

    • very active musically and had a beautiful voice

    • she was also very active in the Athena Christian Church

  • She began her college career at Northwest Christian College, she did her post graduate work at Phillips University, Oregon College of Education and the University of Oregon

  • She taught in Enid Oklahoma, Burley Idaho and settled permanently in the Portland area

  • She taught numerous grade levels, including kindergarten, grade school and middle school

  • In addition to K-8 teaching, Donna's career also included a parallel and illustrious 43 years at Mt. Hood Community College where she earned the respect of both students and faculty receiving the "Distinguished Teacher Award"

  • She also served as adjunct professor for Portland State University, Lewis and Clark College and Boise State University

  • She has received countless awards, certificates and recognition, including the Oregon Educational Association Award of Excellence

  • Her work included multiple state and national educational grants and teaching incentives, including the Gresham-Barlow Foundation Technology Lab, featured on cable television at OMSI, where she spent a year as a prestigious Teacher in Residence

  • She acted for a time as a science curriculum writer for the Oregon PlublicBroadcasting International Teacher Training Institute

  • Some of her community involvement included Mt. Hood Festival of Jazz volunteer, Portland Youth Philharmonic Parent volunteer, Hot meals for the Homeless and Director of Children's Educational programs at Saint Peter and Paul Episcopal Church

  • Was married to husband Barry Ball and has two sons

  • After a heroic battle with cancer, she passed away in the spring of 2017
