  • graduated McEwen High School in 1952

  • first athlete from the school to be selected to the East/West Shrine Football All-Star Game

  • he was a four sport letterman, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track

  • during his senior year, he started throwing the javelin while not playing basketball

  • without a coach or teammates, he went to the district track meet and took first place

  • he took second at state when a thrower from Union High School beat him on the final throw

  • he was Student Body President and the Letterman's Club President

  • he then graduated from Linfield College with a Bachelor's degree in Business

  • while at Linfield, he lettered in track for four years

  • after graduating college, he has worked in the business field for several years

  • he married Terry Whitaker of Athena

  • owner and operator of S&M farming

  • in 1983 he was chosen as the Oregon Conservation Award winner for his farming practices

  • he has served on the Athena City Council for 24 years

  • served as Athena City Mayor for 7 years

  • served on the ambulance board

  • he is trustee of the Watts fund since 1987

  • has worked on the Umatilla County Planning Commission, Umatilla County Solid Wast Committee, and the Umatilla County Parks Commission

  • he has three children and also has grandchildren
