After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He and his wife, Shelley, returned to Athena to raise their family and started Dunlap Landscaping in 1985, which they operate today. In the community, he has actively coached Little League baseball, youth soccer, basketball and football and WMHS boys basketball. His grandson, Jace, represents the third generation of Dunlap family athletes at Weston-McEwen.

Leonard Pittman, Class of 1963
Pittman grew up in Athena, where his family owned the local grocery store. While in high school at Weston-McEwen, he was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football and baseball. He was a class officer for three years and participated in FFA raising sheep.

Pittman always loved building things, including tree houses and airplane models. He started college at Eastern Oregon College, then transferred to Oregon State University to earn a civil engineering degree. He worked for the Washington State Highway Department (WDOT) for 33 years, moving up the ranks until his last and final job as the South-Central Regional Administrator for WDOT, supervising more than 500 employees. He retired in 2001.

If you have ever traveled on I-82 or to Seattle via Snoqualmie Pass or to Lewiston, ID, you have traveled on highways built with Pittman’s engineering expertise.
