Dear Athena-Weston School District Families:
With the release of Ready Schools Safe Learners Resiliency Framework on June 25, 2021, the Oregon Department of Education shifted to a local decision-making model for health and safety protocols. The Athena-Weston School District asked our community for feedback about mask protocols in schools, and we received more than 300 responses to our survey. The information gathered helped us to make the decision that masks will be optional in schools when we return in the fall. Those who are more comfortable wearing masks and/or face shields should continue to do so. With the health and safety of our students and families in mind, the district will maintain sanitation and hygiene measures to mitigate the spread of illness and will continue to partner with Umatilla County Health Department regarding quarantine decisions. The district appreciates the overwhelming response to our request for feedback. We look forward to welcoming our students back in the fall and will continue to monitor health and safety conditions and to seek feedback from our community as needed.
